Do you dig on conspiracy theories?

Dunno about you, but I love a good conspiracy theory. 2000 Florida voting irregularities - oh yeah, baby. Microsoft writing operating systems that screw up 3rd-party software products - let's go track that down, too. X-Files - check.

Today, my buddy Mark Anderson has a GREAT POST on oil price manipulation. Timely, given Senator Cantwell's hearings this week.

Oh PALEASE!

I was going to completely avoid blogging about Sarah Palin because I figured that all the easy recruiting analogies would be obvious to y'all.

Then, along comes Punk Rock HR with this post.

So, I thought about this a bit because it really pissed me off. I thought about all the 'powerful' women I know and how they kept their hair. And I'm not talking about the women we all see on TV, or YouTube, or in the media. I mean women I know well enough to know why they design themselves the way they are. Yeah, I said design.

Sarah Palin is so not going to cut her hair. Why would any woman who has gotten to where she is now w/o cutting her hair do that now? Why would she change one itty bitty thing about her package? She just completely blew the Republican Party, and more than a few other people outside the party on their asses. You know, with the long hair, polite demeanor and all the rest?

I take your bet, Ms. Punk Rock HR. And shame on you as a woman for not seeing the light that is Sarah Palin. That's what I call a post-feminist feminist. Even a punk-rock feminist. Maybe even a Job-Hacking feminist. She took what she had and she hit them so hard they didn't even know what hit them.

I'll even go a step further. I'll bet another Lincoln that she sets a trend - we're going to all start seeing a lot more moms in the neighborhood, office, and boardroom sporting longer tresses.

Maybe even on Ms. Punk Rock HR! ;-)

Do you care about your coffee?

I love my morning coffee.

What this means is that I'm willing to try different brands, different roasts to see what's what. I'm not willing to roast my own beans just yet, but I've got friends who do.

Last week, we went to Cannon Beach for our annual family vacation. Of course, I was still working... :-(

While we were there, we discovered another coffee on the LAST day of our visit. I feel fortunate at having discovered it, but I sure do wish the discovery had occurred earlier in our visit!

The Discovery: Monastery Blend by Sleepy Monk Coffee roasters. They are a small free-trade coffee roaster that got it's start in the eastern suburbs of Seattle. I dunno why they moved to Cannon Beach, exactly, but I'd bet they fell in love w/the Oregon Beach. And then they figured out how to make their biz work down there. There's some career advice in there somewhere....

Here's the best part: You can order your coffee from Sleepy Monk on-line!

Are you reading during Labor Day Weekend?

Good. You and about half the working population in the U.S. are on the same track.

Copyblogger has a great post, How to Read.

Not only can this help improve your understanding of whatever tech read you've gotten your hands on lately, it can vastly improve your reading of both job descriptions and resumes.

Or, in writing them.

Eyore v. Tigger

Just read that Randy Pausch passed. Randy was a Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, and is  famous for his "Last Lecture" book, and YouTube video.

He had a great observation. In your life, you can choose to be an Eyore or a Tigger. His view was that it's much more fun to be a Tigger.

Don't know about you, but it sure seems to me that the best Software Developers are Tiggers!

Learn how to stand up to your Voicemail!

I like this post by Peter Kretzman.

One of the points he makes is that of leaving succinct vm messages. Amen to that!

Being Recruited

Had a funny thing happen yesterday - I got recruited.

Sorta fun to have the shoe on the other foot. And, it's very flattering to have someone say, "Hey, we want you on our team."

Not that I'm taking them up on the offer, but the recognition was nice!

Charlie Wilson's War

Watched "Charlie Wilson's War" last night.

It was a great flick - recommend it highly!
